Taxable income is generally assessable income after allowable deductions; it is not necessarily the same as gross salary.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Review the estimated income tax, Medicare levy, total tax, effective tax rate and annual after-tax income.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The calculator is designed for an <strong>individual Australian resident for tax purposes<\/strong>. This is different from the marginal rate applied to the last part of your income.<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>After-tax income<\/strong> \u2014 annual taxable income less estimated income tax and Medicare levy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The estimate does not include the Medicare levy surcharge, family thresholds, Seniors and Pensioners Tax Offset rules, private health insurance adjustments, tax offsets, HELP\/SL repayments, deductions not already reflected in taxable income, or other individual circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Australian income tax example for 2026-2027<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For an Australian resident with annual taxable income of <strong>$100,000<\/strong>, the 2026-2027 rates produce estimated income tax of <strong>$20,520<\/strong>. Adding an estimated <strong>$2,000 Medicare levy<\/strong> gives total estimated tax of <strong>$22,520<\/strong> and annual after-tax income of <strong>$77,480<\/strong>. The effective total tax rate is <strong>22.52%<\/strong>. This example assumes the ordinary 2% Medicare levy applies and no offsets, surcharge, exemptions or other adjustments are relevant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Current Australian resident income tax rates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Australian income years run from 1 July to 30 June.
